UMAYYAD OF SPAIN: Hisham II, 976-1009, AR fractional dirham (0.49g), NM, ND, A-354P, Fatimid style, imitating the silver dirhams of al-'Aziz (975-996), obverse inner legend al-imam hisham al-mu'ayyad (outer legend unread), reverse legend has the circular kalima with the star of Solomon in the center; probably struck by one of the North African tribes allied with the Umayyads of Spain but imitating the Fatimid currency used in that region; unpublished, VF-EF, RRR. Tonegawa illustrates a number of probably North African silver coins imitating Fatimid hosts, but none with the star of Solomon.
