UNITED STATES:1739 Admiral Vernon Medal, Betts-232, Adams & Chao PBvs 20-HH, McC.-G. 126, choice VF, 38mm, full-length figure right, holding sword in right hand and baton in left, with cannon below right and ship left, with THE BRITISH FLORY REVIV D BY ADMIRAL VERNON around and scallop shell and leafy ornaments at bottom / city-harbor scene with eight ships below (in two lines of four) sailing left, and WHO TOOK PORTO BELLO WITH SIX SHIPS ONLY around and NOV.22.1739. and leafy ornaments in exergue, brass, plain edge, with old NGC label with wrong McC.-G. number and grade of VF 35, hints of luster. Vernon stated that he could take the Porto Bello port with only six ships. Porto Bello, in present-day Panama, was a port used by Spanish sailors to raid British commerce. Vernon was able to make good on his claim after a two-day siege.
