UNITED STATES:1835, copper medal, Julian-MI-12, EF to AU, 65mm, 1835 Colonel George Croghan bronze medal by Moritz Fürst, bust right, PRESENTED BY CONGRESS TO COLONEL GEORGE CROGHAN 1835 around, FURST.F. below truncation // PARS MAGNA FUIT ("his share was great") above, central battle scene with sailing ships, marching soldiers, cannon smoke and fort, SANDUSKY 2: AUGUST. 1813 in exergue, FURST F. at lower edge, R. Though struck in recognition of the War of 1812 battle that took place August 2, 1813, the dies for the medal were not cut until the mid-1830s and the gold medal for presentation to Croghan wasn't struck until March 1837. The dies for this medal were the last of those for the War of 1812 issues to be finished. Julian thought these to have been struck around 1885.
