The Cotton States Expo was designed to show new products and technologies and to promote the American South to the world, and to encourage trade with Latin America. It featured innovative displays in agriculture and technology from different states, and was open for 100 days from September 18 through December 31, 1895. There were 1,573 medals issued during the exposition, 634 in gold, 444 in silver, and 495 in bronze.
