UNITED STATES: AE medal (19.74g), 1915, 38mm bronze medal for the Centennial of the Battle of New Orleans by W & H Co., Newark, Peace personified and riding large shell across water, and holding laurel branch in her left hand and radiance emitting from right hand with PEACE SPREDS HER INFLUENCE O'ER THE ATLANTIC SHORE around // radiant dove above inscription CONCORD / BETWEEN / GREAT BRITAIN / AND / AMERICA, all within palm wreath with "1815 - NEW ORLEANS - 1915" below, rare, plain edge, VF-XF. The Battle of New Orleans, fought on January 8, 1815, was a significant U.S. victory during the War of 1812. Despite the Treaty of Ghent ending the war a month earlier, news hadn't reached the United States yet. General Andrew Jackson's forces successfully defended New Orleans against a larger, more experienced British army. The battle is remembered for its decisive U.S. victory and its impact on national pride and Jackson's political career.
