UNITED STATES: AV 2½ dollars, 1835, KM-56, Classic Head type, housed in an older generation PCGS holder, PCGS graded AU50. These coins were initially produced under the US Coinage Act of June 28, 1834 which set the standard weight at 64 and 1/2 grains and the gold content at 58 grains, hence a fineness of .8992. Coins in 1837 and after were produced under the Coinage Act of January 18, 1837 which changed the gold content to 58.05 grains to give a standard fineness of .900.
