UNITED STATES: Colonial, AE halfpenny token (5.42g), 1766, KM-Tn24a, Betts-519, 28mm Pitt halfpenny token, silvered bronze, some oxidation, but also luster, plain edge, VF, ex Antikören. These tokens were made ca. 1769 as a tribute to William Pitt the Elder, who endeared himself to Americans when he appealed to have the dreaded Stamp Act repealed. These were pressed into circulation during a shortage of regular coinage. It has been suggested that the piece may have been designed by Paul Revere.
