UNITED STATES: aluminum medal, 1909, King-250, DeLorey-51, Cunningham-10-440GS, 38mm, "Centennial of Lincoln's Birth" medal by Thomas Elder, ABRAHAM LINCOLN FELLED BY THE ASSASSIN'S BULLET / APRIL 15 1865 around bust of Lincoln right // HE SHARES EQUALLY / WITH / WASHINGTON / THE / VENERATION / OF HIS / COUNTRY, in older generation NGC holder, NGC graded MS62, RR, ex SARC Auction 33, Lot 2564. In 1902 Thomas Elder issued the first of a long series of dealer store cards, personal tokens, political pieces and other commemorative tokens. The dies for this aluminum medal were produced by Hanson in Chicago. Presumably, Hanson also struck the pieces. The issue's mintages are as follows: Silver 5-6, German Silver 5-6, Copper 5-6, Brass 6-10, White Metal 6, Aluminum 50, and Lead 6.
