UNITED STATES: silvered bronze medal, ND (1914-1918), DeLorey-102, Baker-621, 32mm World War I 'Dog Tag' medal by Thomas Elder & Robert Lovett; GEORGE WASHINGTON / SECURITY around bust left of Washington // NAME, CO. and REGT. on the reverse with areas for engraving, a lovely mint state example! NGC graded MS63. T. DeLorey reports that these were struck in sterling silver, german silver, silver plated bronze, bronze, brass and aluminum. These were released in the middle of World War I and reportedly were meant to be pocket pieces for the doughboys after engraving,we have never seen one with period engraving.
