UNITED STATES: silvered white metal token, 1860, Miller-Pa90D, EDWARD COGAN / COIN / DEALER / 48 / N. TENTH St. / PHILADELPHIA // 1860 within laurel wreath, a lovely mint state example! PCGS graded MS63. Edward David Cogan (1803-1884) issued a store card in 1860, which most probably marks the year he became a "full-time dealer", which at this time really meant specialist since coins were never exclusive in the trade until many many years later. Cogan arrived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on July 26, 1853. He began in the coin trade in 1855 at his shop at 48 North 10th Street, Philadelphia, which is most probably an exaggeration. In 1866 Cogan resided at 299 State Street, Brooklyn, New York, and later at 408 State Street, Brooklyn, Kings County, New York, 68 William Street, Brooklyn, New York, and at 95 William Street, Brooklyn.
