UQAYLID: Mu'tamid al-Dawla, 1001-1050, AR dirham (3.54g), Awânâ, AH427, A-759.3, 31.2mm; citing the Buwayhid overlord Jalal al-Dawla only by his kunya Abu Tahir; fabulous example with elegant artistic calligraphy; lovely iridescent toning, EF to About Unc, RRR. Although his earlier issues are only moderately rare, his late issues of the three mints in northcentral Iraq are of the highest rarity, none on Zeno, and only one of the Ukbara mint, an inferior specimen sold at Baldwin's Auction 26, lot 1736, in 2001 (the third mint is Tikrit).
