VENEZUELA: AE medal, 1951, 71mm cast bronze medal by Valmitjana in Caracas for the Relocation of Simon Bolivar's Statue; TRASLACION DE LA ESTATUA DEL LIBERTADOR - NUEVA YORK - XIX - IV - MCMLI around bust of Simón Bolívar // UNA SOLA DEBE SER LA PATRIA DE TODOS LOS AMERICANOS – BOLÍVAR, around a circular ribbon around the American Continents in which the cities of Caracas and New York are shown as incuse dots, with the original case of issue, UNC. The Venezuelan Government in 1921 gifted an equestrian statue of The Liberator Simón Bolívar to the City of New York, which was originally placed on Bolívar Hill in Central Park. In 1945, Sixth Avenue was expanded and renamed Avenue of the Americas. Following the inauguration of this avenue, the idea arose from prominent citizens of the United States of America and distinguished personalities from some South American countries that the equestrian statue of the Liberator should be moved to a more prominent site than the one in which it was placed. The statue was moved April 19, 1951 to the Plaza Bolívar now located at the head of the Avenue of the Americas in Central Park South and placed on a new black granite pedestal.
