VIETNAM (NORTH): brass medal (6.35g), 1970, Sylvester—, Daniel—, 70 x 42mm, roughly in the shape of a kim khánh, commemorating the annual Elders ' Banquet of Hanh Thien Village, Xuan Truong District, Nam Dinh Province of 1970, stylized YEN LAO within circle, surrounded by HOI / HANH THIEN - TUONG TE ("gathering / charity - mutual aid"), date in common era & Vietnamese sexagenary year above, small holes on top & bottom (as made) for suspension, EF. Yen Lao ("Elders ' Banquet") is a traditional ceremony which takes place in Hanh Thien Village every mid-September on the lunar calendar. It celebrates the life of elderly people aged 70 & over and pays tribute to the home village. The ceremony includes rituals such as the presentation of statues, as well as folk performances and boat races.
