IMPORTANT NOTE - The Buyer's Premium is now $20 per lot or 20% of the hammer price, whichever amount is greater. However, we have also reduced opening bids on lower value items to adjust for the new Buyer's Premium structure, so all-in costs are still very close to what they were in the past. This change in fee structure will allow us to continue to offer coins valued at less than $100 in addition to our higher value offerings. Contact us with any questions.
WARRING STATES: Ba & Shu States, 300-225 BC, LOT of 15 bridge money, various sizes between 9 and 15cm wide, including 8 with simple linear patterns and 7 with plain surfaces; two pieces broken and repaired, a few with small casting holes, two examples with some original brassy patina; retail value $600, lot of 15 pieces, ex Dr. Dirk Löer Collection. Though colloquially known as 'bridge money,' these bronze 'bridges' are formally known only as funerary objects designed to imitate the stone chimes of the bianqing. Bridge Money pieces have now been dated to circa 306-221 BC and are accepted by many--but not all--Chinese numismatists as actual coins of Ba and Shu States during the Warring States period.
