IMPORTANT NOTE - The Buyer's Premium is now $20 per lot or 20% of the hammer price, whichever amount is greater. However, we have also reduced opening bids on lower value items to adjust for the new Buyer's Premium structure, so all-in costs are still very close to what they were in the past. This change in fee structure will allow us to continue to offer coins valued at less than $100 in addition to our higher value offerings. Contact us with any questions.
WARRING STATES: State of Zhou, 650-400 BC, AE spade money (26.8g), H-2.170, hollow-handled sloping shoulder type, wu in archaic script, handle is filled with soil and clay as is typically observed, an attractive example with a clear character and lovely earthen patina, graded 80(06) by GBCA Grading Company, artificial defect, VF, ex Dr. Dirk Löer Collection, ex Hong Kong Coin Auction 40, Lot 414. Spades of this type are associated with the Kingdom of Zhou and the Henan area. Their smaller size indicates that they are later in date than square shoulder spades. Wu was an ancient city in the State of Liang or Jin in today's southern Shanxi.
