WESTERN LIAO: AE pendant (16.75g), ca. 11th-13th century, in the shape of a fish, the entire body covered with symbols that resemble the scales of the fish except for the head, one tiny hole at each end and each side (as made), likely for suspension and attachment, VF-XF, RRR. Although the symbols are almost entirely the fish's scales, the artistic structure resembles the Western Liao Daoist tablets, such as Zeno-123615 (sold as Lot 2774 in our Auction 31). It is generally reported that both the tablets and this piece have been found in the regions of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan centered around the modern city of Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan. This is the only "fish" pendant we have encountered; there are none on Zeno or CoinArchives.
