WESTERN TURKS: Sandan Vakhu Deva, early 8th century, AR drachm (2.89g), G-244, Zeno-77043, trilingual type derived from a standard Sasanian design, with legends in Brahmi, Bactrian and Pahlavi, gold inlay on the king's neck, countermark #104 at bottom of the obverse, much rarer than countermark #103; bold strike, rare variety showing most of the king's moustache, choice VF-XF, R. There are four basic subtypes for this series: (1) no countermark and no gold inlay, rare (2) countermark #103 with gold inlay, relatively common (3) countermark #104 with gold inlay, rare; and (4) both countermarks 103 and 104 and the gold inlay, scarce.
