WESTERN WEI:LOT of 90 coins, da tong wu zhu H-10.25 type, encrusted, average quality examples, retail value $1000, lot of 90 coins. The Western Wei dynasty existed briefly from the year 535 until 556. Historical records mention that a Wu Zhu cash coin was cast during the Datong period (535-551) which had a calligraphic style akin to that of the earlier Yongan Wuzhu cash coins as well as those of the Sui Wu Zhu 's. A defining characteristic of these "Datong Wu Zhu cash coins" (dà tong wu zhu qián) is the fact that they have a broad outer rim with an inner rim only by the "wu" character to the right side of the square center hole. The crossing lines of the "wu" character are straight whereas the crossing lines of Sui Wu Zhu 's have an hourglass shape.
