IMPORTANT NOTE - The Buyer's Premium is now $20 per lot or 20% of the hammer price, whichever amount is greater. However, we have also reduced opening bids on lower value items to adjust for the new Buyer's Premium structure, so all-in costs are still very close to what they were in the past. This change in fee structure will allow us to continue to offer coins valued at less than $100 in addition to our higher value offerings. Contact us with any questions.
YUAN: Zhi Zheng, 1341-1368, AE 3 cash (20.2g), H-20.13, graded 82 by GBCA Grading Company, VF. The first cash coins issued by Zhu Yuanzhang actually bore the inscription "Dazhong Tongbao" because he wanted to name his name country the "Great Zhong" dynasty but eventually the name was settled on the "Great Ming" dynasty. The Hongwu period was proclaimed in 1368 and the introduction of the Hongwu Tongbao coins began then. Despite the new coinage being issued the "Dazhong Tongbao" coins would continue to be cast as reconquering China from the Mongols took several more years.
