ZARA: French Occupation, AR 4 francs 60 centimes (1 ounce), 1813, KM-1, Dav-49, Siege of Zara during the War of the Sixth Coalition issue; crowned eagle standing left on thunderbolt, head right, with wings spread; ZARA to left, 1813 at right; all within diamond incuse // 1.0. / 4F 60C in two lines on tablet; all within incuse square, PCGS graded AU53. The Siege of Zara took place between 22 November and 5 December 1813, during the Adriatic Campaign of the Napoleonic Wars. During the siege, an Anglo-Austrian force under command of George Cadogan in HMS Havannah blockaded and bombarded Zara (modern day Zadar), which was then held by a French garrison. Within two weeks, the garrison surrendered to the attackers.
