IMPORTANT NOTE - The Buyer's Premium is now $20 per lot or 20% of the hammer price, whichever amount is greater. However, we have also reduced opening bids on lower value items to adjust for the new Buyer's Premium structure, so all-in costs are still very close to what they were in the past. This change in fee structure will allow us to continue to offer coins valued at less than $100 in addition to our higher value offerings. Contact us with any questions.
ZHOU: Spring-Autumn Period, 770-475 BC, AE 'fish money' (13.30g), cf. Zeno-194574, 82mm, cast in the shape of fish with hole for threading (as made), foliate lines on one side, made by various "barbarian tribes" (yí) along the Yellow River during the Shang and early Zhou Dynasties, Fine, ex Dr. Dirk Löer Collection. These types are mentioned in Coole, Jen, and other references with ambiguous statements regarding their possible use as money. Their frequent presence in ancient tombs perhaps suggests a funerary purpose.
