FRANCE: SET of 2 medals, including 2-80mm bronze uniface medals, marked No.1 and 2, respectively, on the exergue line, by Bertrand Andrieu (1761-1822), first medal depicts the Siege of The Bastille, with citizen army below firing guns and cannons up at The Bastille with SIEGE DE LA BASTILLE around and "PRISE PAR LES CITOYENS DE / LA VILLE DE PARIS / LE 14 Juet. 1789" in exergue; second medal is of the arrival of the King to Paris, King arriving on horseback with citizen army crowded around with ARRIVEE DE ROI A PARIS around and "LE 6 OCTOBRE / 1789" in exergue, a few minor spots, in plastic case, labels read "struck in 1790", but these may be of later vintage, plain edges, set of 2 medals, AU. According to a tag on the back of the case, Andrieu was born at Bordeaux. At age 8 (1769) he began studies as an engraver of armorial bearings. In 1786 he went to Paris and entered the die-sinking business. He produced these medals (his first) when he was 28 years old.
